ARCHIVING POLICY
1. Overview
Open Arc Journal of Research and Innovation (OAJRI) is committed to the long-term preservation and availability of all published content. In the event that the journal ceases publication or becomes unavailable, all published articles must remain permanently accessible to readers worldwide. OAJRI achieves this through multiple digital preservation and archiving strategies.
2. Digital Preservation
OAJRI uses the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) for digital preservation of all published content. PKP PN is a free preservation service provided by the Public Knowledge Project that deposits journal content into the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) network, ensuring long-term preservation through distributed storage across multiple nodes worldwide.
In addition, OAJRI is committed to enrolling in the following preservation networks:
| Preservation Service | Status |
|---|---|
| PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) | Active |
| CLOCKSS | Planned |
| Internet Archive | Planned |
3. How to Enable PKP PN in OJS
For journal administrators: PKP PN can be enabled by going to Settings → Website → Plugins → PKP PN Plugin and activating it. Once activated, content is automatically deposited into the preservation network.
4. Persistent Identifiers
To ensure permanent and stable access to published articles, OAJRI assigns Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to all published articles. DOIs provide a permanent link to the article regardless of changes to the journal's URL or hosting platform.
Authors are encouraged to use DOIs when citing OAJRI articles to ensure citation stability and traceability.
5. Repository Deposits
In addition to the PKP PN, authors are encouraged to self-archive their published articles in the following repositories to further ensure availability:
- Institutional repositories of their home institutions
- Subject-specific repositories relevant to their field
- General repositories such as Zenodo (https://zenodo.org)
6. Backup and Recovery
OAJRI maintains regular server-side backups of all journal data, including published articles, submission records, and user data. Backups are performed on a scheduled basis to prevent data loss due to technical failures.
7. Continuity of Access
In the event that OAJRI ceases operations, all published content will remain permanently accessible through the PKP PN and any other preservation networks in which the journal is enrolled. The publisher commits to providing at least 6 months notice before ceasing publication and will take all necessary steps to ensure continued access to the published record.
